The War Between Good and Evil: You Cannot Stay Neutral

Over the last six months, since launching this ministry, resistance has pressed hard. A broken leg. A near fatal fall off a cliff. My husband tumbling off a ladder. My love one attempting suicide. Estrangement with my in-laws. Technology failing when work must move forward. A car stuck in the snow and a flat tire on the way to serve.
Individually, each event could be explained.
Together, they forced reflection.
I am working to bring survivors to Christ. This means I am walking with women who are fighting to leave trafficking and substance abuse behind. I am watching lives shift from bondage toward freedom.
And the enemy does not celebrate that. Ephesians 6:12 makes this clear:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” The war between good and evil.
There was a night I asked God quietly whether this was simply hardship or opposition. The answer, hard to believe, settled in my spirit with clarity.
This is a war for souls.
The devil wants survivors tethered to shame, addiction, exploitation, and lies about their worth.
God wants them restored, redeemed, and anchored in truth.
Yet something had to be settled firmly in my heart.
The devil is real.
He is active.
He is deceptive.
But he is not sovereign.
There is a war older than humanity.
It did not begin on earth. It began in heaven.
Scripture tells us that rebellion rose in the presence of God. An angel created in beauty chose pride over submission.
Revelation 12 describes war breaking out in heaven and Satan being cast down, along with the angels who followed him. Jesus Himself says in Luke 10:18, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
That rebellion did not end. It redirected. You cannot stay neutral with spiritual warfare... it's God vs. Satan.
Every human life now unfolds within the aftermath of that moment.
We are not living in neutral territory.
We are living between two kingdoms. One ruled by God, sovereign and holy, Creator of all things. The other driven by a fallen being who rejected that authority and now works to oppose it.
This is not primarily a conflict between personalities.
The war is between good and evil.
Under God’s authority there is truth, restoration, humility, freedom, and life.
Under Satan’s influence there is deception, pride, division, bondage, and destruction.
The danger is not always dramatic... It is subtle.
The devil rarely destroys through spectacle. He destroys through distortion. He presents lies that sound reasonable. He makes pride feel justified. He makes compromise feel harmless. He makes fear feel wise.
Unless we return to God to define what is true, we slowly begin to call deception acceptable.
Colossians 1:16 reminds us that all things were created through Christ and for Christ, including rulers and authorities. Satan is created. God is Creator. There is no equal throne.
Only God defeats Satan. We cannot overpower him. Instead, we align ourselves under Christ.
James 4:7 gives the order:
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Submission comes first because authority determines outcome.
Now this becomes personal. Do you believe Jesus is Lord? Do you believe Satan works to distort truth and keep people bound?
If the answer is yes, neutrality is not an option. Pick a side... pick a kingdom.
When pressure rises, whose authority shapes your response?
When temptation whispers, whose voice defines truth?
The power of Satan in your life is not broken by awareness alone. It is broken by relationship with Jesus. Not casual belief or cultural Christianity. Intentional and active: surrender, prayer, scripture, worship, obedience. Read it again... the power of Satan is broken by your relationship with Jesus.
One kingdom brings destruction through manipulation.
One kingdom brings freedom through restoration.
Every day we decide which authority we live under.
Choose your Kingdom wisely.
A Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Expose every lie I have believed.
Anchor me in Your truth.
Break every tether the enemy has placed around my mind or heart.
I choose Your authority.
I trust Your victory.
Lead me in freedom.
Amen.
In truth & love,
Melissa Mills, survivor leader
